Summary

The most important thing I learned is that the net is much larger than I could possibly even imagine and on the other hand, the earnest cooperation of coworkers is very refreshing.
The most challenging for me was comprehending how the different programs work. Going from one to another and how they all link together.
Using these technologies to deliver information to the home bound is terrific. Making these same technologies to patrons is already improving the library services.
Lastly, I think the self-directing model was super good....It gets one to 'think' outside the box and collaborate with co-workers. Communication is a source of our livelihood and for those of us who do not service the circulation or reference desks, it's a great way to enjoy that benefit among our 'library family' and develop another skill in the process.

Task 10

Wow! I finally made it to 10....
I wasn't too impressed with MySpace.com, although I can see why the young people would like it......especially being able to post your pic (in whatever condition) for the world to see. This is probably why it is so popular....you see people from all walks of life. If there is a benefit, I believe this would be it.
The pitfalls are that you are an easy target for 'whatever' and a lot of valuable time can be wasted browseing for 'friends'. It seems like this website is just beginning as not many schools are listed and people's names are not found. If you type in an author....you are referred to Ebay or Amazon, at least I was.

Task 9

I have to admit I didn't quite know what to do with this task. I hope I got to D.C. ok. I sent him an email as well as had him listed as 'collaborator'when I sent my document.
Spreadsheets are great if you can manage all the 'cells'....when I was in Business College I remember having to make loads of 'balance sheets', names and listings of various items used for proposals and reports.
Google makes these Docs and Spreadsheets readily available to the online public at no cost.....which I think is great!!

Task 3

The RSS feeds I subscribe to on my Bloglines are; The Daily Breeze and TechDirt.

My experience with Bloglines is very interesting. I especially like the idea that clip/blog will help you by keeping clippings of articles saved for you instead of whole pages which you have to glean when you have the time to read it.

I think I will be using it much more in the future.

Task 8

Hola!.....
It was fun watching the various videos on the YouTube website. I chose to write about a student named, Ilana, from Boston. Her Video was titled, Diet.com Weight loss Challenge Vlog. The URL is Http:youtube.com/watch?v-tWYKYIR5vEs. She describes her battle with weight gain, her goals in life, how they conflict and what she is doing to combat the issue.
I can see why YouTube is popular especially with young people, it's very entertaining without being intrusive.
I suppose there are various ways the library can use this tool. One would be to introduce our library to the online world with our library in the background.....showing different parts of the library, its branches and the Annex....describing their functions so on and so forth.... it could be very cool.

Task 7

Good Morning/Afternoon!
My Wikipedia username is 'bookrepairer', because we all know that that is what I do here in the library.
I had a good time editing Wikipedia on the Palos Verdes Library District entry. There were a lot of inconsistencies and unnecessary parenthesis, so I eliminated them and where there were repetitions I consolidaded. It's been a while since I've proof read anything so I enjoyed my time on Task 7..

Task 6
